For several years, the American Association of Orthodontists has promoted early treatment by recommending that all children be screened by age seven.
Early orthodontic treatment is not only good for a child’s self-esteem it is also important for the child’s overall health. Dr. Sadikoff believes in the functional philosophy which involves treating kids at an early age using functional appliances. These appliances can help to develop the upper and lower jaws, reposition the lower jaw, and widen the jaws to make room for permanent teeth.
This early intervention eliminates the need for the removal of healthy, permanent teeth at a later age. Children, and their parents, prefer that they be treated early and without extractions or orthogratic surgery.
